Imaginați-vă o creatură care stă letargic sub pământ, într-un somn inuman, de mult timp uitată. Această creatură se trezește, se strecoara printr-o fisura din pământ și găsește o lume pe care abia o recunoaște. Haosul, tulburarea, brutalitatea, setea de sânge și teroarea sunt peste tot. Căutând să restabilească un anumit sens al ordinii în împrejurimile sale, creatura adoptă natura distructivă prin care omul se defineste și începe o căutare răzbunătoare a puterii.
Mitologia, fabula și metafora se ciocnesc cu „Beast”, un nou album înfloritor care marchează întoarcerea DESPISED ICON. Trupa cu un gen definitoriu este complet pregătită să recupereze coroana cu puterea monstruoasă și fără milă a expresiei lor puternice. Formata din oamenii responsabili pentru directia death metal actuala, „Beast“ este un comentariu vicios despre starea lumii și starea muzicii în sine.
Este vechea școală DESPISED ICON care amintește de „The Healing Process“ (2005) și „The Ills Of Modern Man” (2007) dar aruncata printr-un obiectiv ultra-modern care poartă cu sine experiența și scopul unei trupe sigură de identitatea și moștenirea lor. Fără a sacrifica salturile creative de ceea ce mulți se temeau ar fi albumul lor final, „Day Of Mourning” (2009), DESPISED ICON reînnoiește atenția asupra celor doi vocali, pasaje tehnice, dexteritate, precizie și greutate a sunetului.
„The Aftermath” lansează albumul cu o imediată brutalitate, cuprinzând întregul obiectiv al atacului implacabil și al flerului clasic al metalelor de death metal. „Inner Demons” va avea profesori de chitară și instructori de tobe care își smulge parul cu frustrare în timp ce melodii precum „Bad Vibes” renunta la elitism muzical în favoarea forței brute. De-a lungul albumului, piesele amintesc de cele mai bune creatii de la OBITUARY, DYING FETUS, INTERNAL BLEEDING sau chiar BIOHAZARD. Există si liniie extrem de melodice precum „Drapeau Noir” cantata în limba franceză. Stilul dual vocal DESPISED ICON este neîngrădit ca niciodată.
Pentru mulți fani de muzică extremă e greu de amintit cum era inainte de DESPISED ICON, având în vedere influența masivă pe care au avut-o ulterior asupra genului. Însă când grupul s-a format din 2002 și a lansat »Consumed By Your Poison« în același an a existat o foarte putine intersectare între clasic death metal și forța brută a hardcore-ului. Genul „metalcore” fusese în plină evoluție de ceva vreme și o mulțime de trupe au experimentat cu elemente din death metal. Dar ICON DESPISED a fost printre primii care au îmbrățișat complet semnăturile formulei tradiționale de death metal combinate cu breakdown-uri, parte a unui sunet nou în curs de dezvoltare.
DESPISED ICON a concertat constant in turnee cu CRYPTOPSY, SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION, DEICIDE, MORBID ANGEL, BEHEMOTH, HATEBREED și NAPALM DEATH. Diversitatea muzicii trupelor din aceasta lista este o dovadă a abordarii muzicale largi a trupei DESPISED ICON. Si nu de prea mult timp, un nou subgen generează din underground, construit în jurul unor trupe precum DESPISED ICON, SUICIDE SILENCE, ALL SHALL PERISH, CARNIFEX și JOB FOR A COWBOY. Ca multe etichete de gen, „deathcore” a devenit ceva controversat și inconfortabil pentru multe dintre trupele asociate la acele momente. Dar impactul acesti muzici extreme variante este, fără îndoială, incontestabil.
DESPISED ICON își revendică cu îndrăzneală moștenirea fără rezerve sau scuze. Din momentul dizolvării trupei – rezultatul creșterii profesionale, a priorităților și a responsabilităților schimbătoare care vin odată cu vârsta adultă și nevoia unei reîncărcări creative – membrii grupului au putut explora diferite texturi cu grupuri precum OBEY THE BRAVE și HEAVEN’s CRY. Intervalul de timp nu a făcut decât să-și consolideze soluția atunci când vine vorba de puritatea a ceea ce înseamnă DESPISED ICON pentru ei, precum și pentru fanii lor din întreaga lume.
De la vocile salbatice până la tonele de blast-beat-uri, noul album DESPISED ICON este o amintire a faptului că această trupă este una dintre originarii unei mișcări puternice în metalul extrem. „Fiara” este trezită și gata să faca ravagii. DESPISED ICON a revenit !

For many extreme music fans, it may be hard to remember a time before DESPISED ICON, given the massive influence they’ve subsequently had on the genre. But when the group formed back in 2002 and released »Consumed By Your Poison« the same year, there was almost no intersection between the sounds of classic death metal and the brute force of hardcore. The “metalcore” genre had been in full swing for some time and plenty of those bands had experimented with elements of death metal. But DESPISED ICON was among the first to fully embrace the signatures of the traditional death metal formula combined with a relentless embrace of breakdowns, part of an emerging new sound.
DESPISED ICON steadily built a following through hard touring with CRYPTOPSY, SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION, DEICIDE, MORBID ANGEL, BEHEMOTH, HATEBREED, and NAPALM DEATH. The diversity of sounds demonstrated by that list of bands is evidence of DESPISED ICON’s broad appeal. Before too long, a new subgenre bubbled up from the underground, built around bands like DESPISED ICON, SUICIDE SILENCE, ALL SHALL PERISH, CARNIFEX and JOB FOR A COWBOY. Like many genre tags, “deathcore” became something of a controversial and uncomfortable albatross for many of the associated bands at various times. But the impact of what is unquestionably an exciting variation of extreme music is undeniable.
DESPISED ICON now boldly reclaim their legacy without reservation or apology. Since the time of the band’s dissolution – the result of professional burnout, the shifting priorities, and responsibilities that come with adulthood and the need for a creative recharge – the group’s members were able to explore different textures with groups like OBEY THE BRAVE and HEAVEN’S CRY. The time apart has only strengthened their resolve when it comes to the purity of what DESPISED ICON means to them as well as to their worldwide fans.
