Fondat la Lugano în anul 1935, iniţial sub denumirea de Orchestra Radiodifuziunii Elveţiei Italiene, acest ansamblu a jucat un rol crucial în dezvoltarea muzicală şi culturală a regiunii, în sensul în care a facilitat înfiinţarea unor festivaluri precum cele de la Lugano, Locarno şi Ascona, care se bucură până în zilele noastre de o recunoaştere internaţională. De-a lungul timpului, la pupitrul orchestrei s-au succedat figuri emblematice ale artei dirijorale – Ernest Ansermet, Igor Stravinsky, Leopold Stokowski, Sergiu Celibidache şi Hermann Scherchen, în timp ce creatori renumiţi ai secolului XX şi-au prezentat lucrările, compozitori ca Richard Strauss, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Frank Martin şi Paul Hindemith, iar mai recent Luciano Berio şi Krzysztof Penderecki.

Susţinută de Cantonul Ticino, Radioteleviziunea Elveţiei Italiene , Oraşul Lugano şi Asociaţia Prietenilor OSI, Orchestra Elveţiei Italiene este una dintre cele treisprezece orchestre profesioniste care activează în Elveţia.

Vladimir Ashkenazy
Muzician iubit și respectat pretutindeni în lume, cu o carieră extraordinară care îl plasează în elita pianisticii mondiale, Vladimir Ashkenazy s-a impus în ultimele trei decenii ca unul dintre cei mai rafinați șefi de orchestră. In prezent este prim-dirijor invitat al Orchestrei Elveției Italiene și dirijor laureat al altor mari orchestre: Philharmonia, NHK Symphony, Iceland Symphony. A inspirat și format noi generații de muzicieni în lunga perioadă în care a fost dirijor și director muzical al Orchestrei de Tineret a Uniunii Europene.

Nelson Goerner
Nelson Goerner este considerat unul dintre cei interesanţi pianişti ai generaţiei sale. S-a născut la San Pedro-Argentina, studiile în ţara natală fiindu-i încununate cu laurii competiţiei Franz Liszt de la Buenos Aires (1986). A obţinut o bursă la Conservatorul din Geneva, unde s-a perfecţionat cu Maria Tipo. A participat la Competiţia de la Geneva (1990), unde a câştigat premiul I. Acesta este, dealtfel, alături de Berlin, oraşul în care îşi desfăşoară şi în prezent remarcabila cariera profesorală.

Nelson Goerner a concertat în compania marilor orchestre ale lumii – London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Suisse Romande, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Orchestra Simfonică NHK din Tokyo – şi a colaborat cu dirijori renumiţi precum Neeme Järvi, Sir Mark Elder, Vassily Sinaisky, Jonathan Nott, Fabio Luisi şi Frans Bruggen.

Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana (OSI), established in 1935, initially as the Orchestra della Radio della Svizzera Italiana, has played a crucial role in the musical and cultural development of the region. OSI has facilitated the foundation of several music festivals, such as the festivals in Lugano, Locarno and Ascona, which continue to be internationally acclaimed nowadays as well. Ernest Ansermet, Igor Stravinsky, Leopold Stokowski, Sergiu Celibidache and Hermann Scherchen have been some of the renowned conductors who have directed the orchestra, while some other famous composers of the 20th century have seen their works performed by the ensemble – among them, Richard Strauss, Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Frank Martin and Paul Hindemith, and more recently Luciano Berio and Krzysztof Penderecki.

Supported by Ticino Canton, the Radiotelevisione Svizzera, the Municipality of Lugano and the Associazione degli Amici dell’OSI, the orchestra is one of the thirteen professional orchestras currently active in Switzerland.

Vladimir Ashkenazy
Among the foremost musical figures of our time, with an outstanding international career which recommends him as one of the top pianists worldwide, Vladimir Ashkenazy has also asserted himself during the past three decades as a highly refined conductor. He is currently principal guest conductor of Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, and has been conductor laureate of several other orchestras, such as Philharmonia, NHK Symphony and Iceland Symphony. He has inspired and trained new generations of musicians during the period in which he has served as a conductor and musical director of the European Union Youth Orchestra.

Nelson Goerner
Nelson Goerner is considered one of the foremost pianists of his generation. Born in San Pedro, Argentina, after concluding his studies he was awarded First Prize at the Liszt Competition in Buenos Aires in 1986. He has earned a scholarship at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève and won the First Prize at the Geneva Competition in 1990. Geneva, as well as Berlin, have been the two main cities where Nelson Goerner has carried out his remarkable teaching career.

Nelson Goerner has a strong connection with the Mozarteum Argentino in Buenos Aires, and a student scholarship has since led to many performances. He also enjoys a long association with the Chopin Institute in Warsaw, where he is a member of the artistic advisory committee. With the Institute, he recently explored the interpretation of Chopin on contemporary pianos by Pleyel and Erard dating from 1848 and 1849. These performances were recorded for the Chopin Institute’s own label, with the recording of the Ballades and Nocturnes winning a Diapason d’Or.
